We have met the enemy and have learned nothing more about him. I have, however, learned some things about myself. There are things men can do to one another that are sobering to the soul. It is one thing to reconcile these things with God, but another to square it with yourself. - Robert Leckie

Looks like a rock solid M42 ND to me. I can't comment on the chin strap. Dated 1940 for an M42. But I don't think this is unheard of.

There is a match in Frank's lot number database. same lot number no decal example.

Never thought of the 1940 aspect.

This helmet was apparently newly issued or a barracks queen before being liberated and then stored very well for the last 75 years.

A great first lid. Excellent way to start the family. Nice that he stored it so well.

A nice "plain jane" M42, the archetypal later war combat helmet. Well done. Leon.

Certainly a nice helmet to start you off. Where does one go to have alook at Frank's lot number database? I would be interested in having a look at it is possible.

Check to see if the buckle has a raised 'hump' as it could be an old copy.
Edges are a bit furry for an original.... otherwise as the fellas said, a nice helmet!!

I don't see any raised bump on the buckle. Flat edges all the way around.
