this is my newest helmet just bought it today
it is a barn found from germany with the usual story,grand pa died and they cleaned up the barn
there were 4 helmets but 3 got disposed and a lot of other old stuff
i cleaned it a bit and gave it a good place

That was a nice helmet, unfortunately not a hard lacquer under the eagle decal and due of wet climat the decal is fall. As you can see other side which is overpainted by regulations of 1940 year is still present, and salvaged due of the layer of overpaint. As usually that is problem with all the early helmets- original pea-green, and apple/green paint is more rusty than theyr brothers in rough paint, sometimes the rough painted helmets just needs a surface cleaning to get a 100% result. But unfortunately early helmets cannot be cleaned. And in case of your helmet I prefer to see it that condition. Any way a good catch

the decal isn t damaged with the cleaning what so ever ;-)
it is a scary thing to do and i tried to minimize it
