I purchased a salty M42 helmet and a bit confused about the name. It looks like "Reese, Htw." . Is "Htw." an abbreviation of a first name? Is it a place? Or is it "H/w."? Any help would be appreciated.

I believe it's an abbreviation of a rank or position - something
like 'Hauptwachtmeister'.........

Steve.
I agree with Steve!....
I think Steve is spot on , can we see the rest of your new purchase? Leon.
Here's photos of rest of the helmet. Nothing spectacular. The maker looks like EF. It's a bit salty and the liner is very fragile, but I like named helmets.
I think it's an abbreviation for Hauptfeldwebel, with the "t" actually being a lower case "f" (look at how far the vertical line in that letter extends) = Hfw
For sure
Reese Hauptfeldwebel
