Re: Nazi Helmet, I can't find this one anywhere!

Thanks Walkwolf,
It seemed no one had the heart to tell him so bluntly,
as you.
Maybe he will study a book.
Sorry if I appeared blunt in my response.
Studying from books is great, but sight, smell and touch are even greater !
A single photo on a web site or one page in a book is not enough sometimes.
(There are so many 'German' helmets on on-line auction sites claiming
to be from the WWII period mixed in with truly genuine ones that it's
a bit overwhelming if you aren't sure what to look for.)
This helmet appears to me as if somebody wanted a WWII german helmet
badly enough to just make up one for themselves, not having a clear
picture of what it should actually look like.
I know. 30 years ago I did the same thing to a M42 from Norway.
Stripped it down to bare metal, painted it gloss black inside and out
and put on SS and National decals............... It looked great, but was
totally wrong ! (Sorry to be so long-winded!)
If this helmet has been passed down from a family member, you should
just treasure it for what it is................Or if it bothers you, just remove
the decals only. Just this would make it look more 'genuine'.
Regards, Steve.
