It is a Heer (army) helmet with a single decal. The inscription appear to be for an Obergefreiter (senior corporal). Better photos of the decal straight on and a photo inside the skirt would be helpful. It may be marked SE64 or something like that in the skirt. NH

Meneilla,
This looks like a nice helmet you have, however it is not necessarily Nazi. This is a German Heer (Army) helmet from WWII. This model appears to be the 1940 model with the rolled edges and stamped air vents. Its nice to have the name of the German soldier who originally owned the helmet written on the liner. Overall it seems to be an extremely nice examle.

Welcome to the forum, you appear to have a decent HEER M40 helmet there, but good straight on images of the decal are essential as lids were played around with as soon as hostilities ended! Leon.

That's a one looker original, ballpark value 5-600 ish, there should also be a maker mark of ET, EF, Q, etc, along with a size, either 62,64,66 on the bottom of the rim near the chinstrap bale. 535 is the batch number of the steel.

I agree with Maximus-just a very decent original helmet in fine shape. Totally worth the $600 price quoted and quite easily 700 on a good day. Nice find! What else did you discover?

A nice M40 as mentioned by all previous members.
$600 is a bit light on imo... would get more like $800 as all seems unmessed with.

Hi Menellia,
Very Sorry for the loss of your Grandfather. Best generation Ever. Welcome to the Band Of Collecting Men and Women. I hope your family will hold onto these items. They have $$$ Value but at days end priceless artifacts he felt the need to preserve and bring home. I would gather to say the regret of not passing to your family for generations would be hard. I am being bold here but hope you will not part with them. If you do please consider one of these fine forum soldiers as a fitting home to honor them for years to come. Be well and God bless. Salute to your family this Memorial Day.
