I JUST put a layaway on a VERY NICE M42 KRIEGSMARINE helmet, the decal is 99.5%, with about 95% of paint still intact.. The shell/liner is VERY NICE with no chinstrap oh and is a single decal..
Theres only one problem with this, it had lacquer on this helmet..
Did they do this to helmets back in the day, or was this done by someone after the war to preserve the helmet??
And if so, how can I get the lacquer off with out destroying the paint/decal??
Or do I even want to do that??

    PLEASE EXPERTS HELP ME!!!

    Thank you

Are you sure it's kreigsmarine? Remember, laquer on a helmet decal can change it from heer silver to kreigsmarine gold. Pictures are a necessity in any question regarding helmets as well Chally.

Yes I am sure, theres pieces where the black of the shield is missing and there is gold under it.. This helmet has been in the hands of Ken Niewiarowicz and he gave the thumbs up...

I have had a couple of helmets that were laquered by vets to keep them from rusting. Your helmet is a killer just leave it as is. No harm. No foul.
