    Hey everyone, quick question!
I need help from someone who owns the book in which you can look up helmets and what type they are.
i got here an "SS" M35 helmet with serial code 996 and makermark ET66

Can someone check if this is an original SS helmet or a post-war repainted one?

All the help is very much appreciated!
You mean a lot number book , I don't know where the misinformation is spreading from that a lot number can tell you if a helmet is real , a lot number is just a generic number in a helmet and not branch specifc , although a maker can be :-)
It's not so easy I'm afraid.

Here you can find my lot number list , Lot numbers database German Helmet Vault

The helmet has to stand on its own and this one seems to have no legs.

Sadly nothing like a genuine helmet, let alone an SS one! Leon.

Disregarding the rest of the helmet, shouldn't the rank written on the inside of the skirt read 'Sturmmann' rather than 'Gefreiter'? The SS and regular army used different ranking systems.

Correct B.B. The pictures themselves also confirmed the verdict on this poor attempt to deceive.

If this is perceived by some as a "fairly convincing copy" then I'm outta here.......
