    Hey everyone, quick question!
I need help from someone who owns the book in which you can look up helmets and what type they are.
i got here an "SS" M35 helmet with serial code 996 and makermark ET66

Can someone check if this is an original SS helmet or a post-war repainted one?

All the help is very much appreciated!

Here is the link, so you can check yourself, but from what you say I have my doubts what you describe is an original SS helmet. Photos always help too.

    I think it's a chinese repro!

If it is a repro, it is a fairly decent looking repro, gotta admit

Disregarding the rest of the helmet, shouldn't the rank written on the inside of the skirt read 'Sturmmann' rather than 'Gefreiter'? The SS and regular army used different ranking systems.

The helmet itself is a reproduction....liner appears to be a post war liner, maybe even a repro. To be honest...it's not close to an original

The 'pinhole' vent holes seem to be a common feature of Chinese reproductions. They crop up on eBay all the time, and somehow they continue to fool people.

It's not a very convincing repro at that, the markings in the steel look awful, the liner is probably a BGS liner or something similar and also as already stated the rank is not a SS rank.

Can even see where they have "corrected" the letters of the name by rubbing with something particularly on the "S" as as they must have thought it looked a bit too thick.
