hey people,im new here and new to collecting..pleasure to be a part.

an honest peson in hawaii,a u.s army medic to be exact is selling a model.m35 german helmet.hes not a collector and knows for sure every thing in the helmet is repo hes just not sure about the shell. he recived the rusted shell, sanded it and painted . what are things to look for other than the crudley installed air vent..im trying to get more pics from him but hes really buissy.
    i need a shell for a restoration project,i just dont like /want a repop.

Hi Greenavenger. Welcome to the Forum.

Look for a small edelweiss flower beside the size marking on the rim
    - this is a sure sign of a Chinese repro. There can be two different
areas on an original where the lot number and maker/size stamps
are - the side of the rim at the ear, and dead astern.

If you are not sure, wait for another one. Relics and shells are
    fairly easy to come by.

Also, peruse Forum helmet threads for originals. Most guys
put up a good number of photos - including lot
    and maker stamps.........
    Regards,

    Steve.

One thing I noticed in a repro helmet I bought was, the edelweiss marking, and the quite bad rolled edge on the helmet....also some repro helmet crowns sit lower given the helmet a squashed, boxy appearance

pics of the inside rim and a profile shot, along with any shell markings will tell for sure.

Normally the rolled rim edge is fairly crudely done on a lot of repro shells, and as already stated marks that are far from the norm is a good indication, however there are some very unscrupulous fakers out there that can and have added correct markings to a repro shell therefore its important to gain as much knowledge as you can before purchasing , ask for help here and if possible with photos, buy good reference books, these will save you a great deal of money in the long run, also see the restoration section in this forum, welcome to the fold, you will learn a great deal here

Best thing to do is take detailed pics, and a lot of them and in natural light (if possible), and post them here for opinions. We can point out things to you. Also, take a look at a lot of the helmets already posted here and that are good, authentic helmets, and that will give you a starting point on what to look for. Welcome to the forum.
