Newly obtained helmet with questions

Article about: Hello Sirs, I'm very novice in the TR world although I am interested and have picked up several items over the years. I try to read as time permits but there are so many variations and fake/

    In the last picture , is it a small hole and dented metal liner ring. Also the side where it could be blood rot. Maybe he took Shrapnel to that side of the helmet. Didnt the allies cut the chin straps to get helmets off easier when taking them as trophies? Maybe the person who took it as a tropphy put a british one on after it was taken

    Regarding the liner ring. There is a dent but I can not locate any holes in the helmet itself. The stain in the leather does appear to be a blood stain to me however I was uncertain if it could have just been caused by water over the years.

    The condition is obviously rough and not what I look for in my collection but I picked it up for $200 and figured it was worth placing on a shelf and preserving what is left of it.

    Good deal for 200 bucks Rob. I believe it is know that captured allied chin straps were used by the German soldiers at times so I think u got yourself a nice helmet.
