Late war M42 where always stamped in the rear as far as i know, so the 55 would be the remains of the lotnumber.
The size should be right of the maker stamp, but it seems to have vanished, maybe rusted to much, or bad stamped.
Your shell would be an size 66 shell, as the size for the liner is the size of the head it would fit, the number on the shell is the size of the shell.

Adravor

Interesting, thanks for the info.
Anyone here able to find the rest of the lot number with the following info?
No Decal
M42
Steel liner
CKL 66
55-- (Looking to find the last 2 digits of this number)
-
Looking at it with a flashlight, holding the flashlight sideways shows small shadows where the 66 should be revealing the remnants of "CKL 66"
But besides the 55 I can't find any signs that there even ever was anything there.
Could it just have been 55 as a lot number?

After looking at the helmetvault,
Helmet M42 lotnmbr 5527 has the exact discription of this helmet!
Light brown leather, dome stamp, white spots on top and half of the circle from the size stamp is gone.
Only odd thing is that helmet 5527 is CKL64, This here is a CKL66

Hi,regarding your lot number there would have been an awful lot of CKL helmets beginning 55 manufactured, the number shows the batch of metal used.
Whichever lot yours came from could certainly have had mixed sizes and potentially even helmet types at earlier stages of the war eg M38's.
Good luck trying to figure out the other 2 numbers!
Hope you enjoy your helmet.
