Opinions needed on M40

Hello guys,

I have had this baby sitting on the shelf for a while and have always wondered about the heavy textured paint on it. Is it zimmerit by chance or a re-issue of some sorts? I think it reads SE66 and the lot # is obscured by paint.

Agreed, textbook reissue for me. M35 with mid war repaint and liner installed.

Forget about zimmerit , it was never applied to a helmet. That's an urband legend just as the HJ Flakhelfer helmets with the HJ diamond under the eagle.
Nice repaint though.

I look at the pics and it does look like a M35, I double checked by looking at the inside of the helmet and the air vents look stamped to me, anyways Thanks Guys, the paint is just heavier on this helmet compared to others I have.

Are you sure about the Zimmerit? I thought they used what they could..even cement! I know they mixed mud and dirt in paint to camo sometimes.. It's very nice! I like the paint job. It does look like an M35 IMO.

Here's one of those urban legend "zimmerit-like" helmets - in relic condition on a dealers site.

I'm of an open mind on this..... funny though, as he says the added coating doubles the weight so I'm thinking after the first few attempts, the average Hermann would have said, "bloody thing weighs a ton - stuff this, leave it for the tanks"
