Picked Up My First m40 Combat Helmet!
Greetings Everyone,
I picked up this helmet today from a vet, and I thought I would show it off to you guys! I've bought several things from this vet over the years, and I'm always surprised what he pulls out of his trunk. This one is an ET66 shell with a size 58 liner. The batch number is 5957 (I think). The liner band is dated 1941, but I can not make out the manufacturer. Time hasn't been good to the leather liner or chinstrap, as they are very fragile and degraded. He said that he grabbed it from a pile of other helmets, so they had probably been sitting outside for a while. I picked up a few more pieces from him as well, but this is my favorite! Being that I got it directly from the veteran, I have no reason to believe that anything on it has been altered, but it never hurts to check. Please let me know your opinions. Also, is there anything I can do to stabilize the liner so it does not further degrade? Thanks!

Definitely a heck of a helmet! Not a whole lot you can do for the leather except keep it in a nice climate controlled room!

Hi,a nice helmet, as Kradspam has said it is unusual that an ET decal is not on one of their factory finish lids, but I think this one is still good. An interesting talking point! Leon.
