Article about: Hello, There is again a Luftwaffe Helmet for Sale, the shell and paint seem to be original, but i think the decal might be an fake. Any Opinions would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Adravo

I saw that helmet up on ye olde fleabay, too and I see no reason to believe the shell and paint are post war, the decal analysis I will leave up to the more experienced folks but I think it matches up with the rest of the helmet well.
    Just my two cents

Well I am happy to be corrected. As I said I'm no expert, it just looked odd to me. To be honest if I knew it was on Ebay I would have totally dismissed it. That must be conditioning because I would look much more closely at badges and medals probably because I am better versed in that area

I think we are seeing a bit of camera distortion to the proportions. Happens with the wide angle lens on some cameras. I took a photo of a M1 helmet last week and reviewing the images I was surprised, the proportion were not what the eye sees.

I know they're out there Frank but I don't know that we see them as much on the forum. Would love to see a 60!

You can see them on German Helmet Walhalla or WAF.

I think 62 and 64 are almost in equal proportion out there.

Don't know if I can find it again (new computer and lost all my old bookmarks) but I had saved a breakdown of production % by size and 64 was definitely the most produced of all the sizes. However, I wouldn't dispute that it seems like 64 and 62 seem to be out there in roughly equal proportion in collections/on the market these days. You look at more helmets than I and I wouldn't want to contradict your observation - also because it really doesn't go against what I have casually observed myself.

Thanks for the photo Terry. The decals always look big on the smaller sized lids. I thought I read somewhere that there were more smaller sized helmets produced later in the war due the the younger age of some of the German soldiers.

The only 60 I have is this little Imperial M17.
