Hi Josh. Nice helmet. Thought you'd like to see my Quist M40 with Czech chin strap.
Hi Alexander!
Thank you very much for posting your helmet. I always love to see helmets with this kind of chinstrap.
I think it adds a unique flavour to them.
What is the lotnr of your Quist my friend? Where did you find this one? Do you have any idea where this helmet was found?
Perhaps we can find out a little more about how these chinstraps came to be used?
Best,
Josh
If anybody on this forum has more information about these types of chinstraps or any photographs showing them in use, I would love to hear from you!
Best,
Josh
Yes, I'm interested if their use is governed by the area of operations. What I mean is, would these Czech straps be found on helmets used in that part of the world only, by, for example, the garrison forces there, or were they used elsewhere, like France or the Low Countries. I would suppose that by the later part of the war these were probably found on all fronts. Also, were they 'official' replacements or did the Wehrmacht see them as 'battlefield repairs'.
