Hi and welcome to the forum!

The wire has not been on that helmet for 65 plus years that is for sure. I see no evidence of any wear or oxidisation of the wire onto the paint.

    Cheers, Ade.

I agree with Ade, no way that wire has been in the ground 60+ years. John

Hi , it looks as though someone has applied heat from a blow torch to the main wire area to try and age it , and then pulled it on to the helmet ,

I can only agree with everyone i'm afraid the wire hasn't been on that lid very long at all

yep definetly the wire is a recent addition to this lid even after just a few years the wire will leave a ghost marking of where it has been......also judging by the condition of the helmet if it was relic dug then it must of been dug out many many years ago, more likely an attic or barn find i would imagine.....

I also agree with the other members here. I'd avoid this one because the wire isnt original and the story doesnt sound too good either unless that lid was dug out of the ground a long time ago.

    Thanks

I believe i saw this helmet on ebay. Original wire will leave impressions on the shell either by way of rubbing or an outline of the wire by way of dirt and natural aging of both metals.

    It is not ground dug.

The only wire that comes away from the dirt without rust is copper
I know this because i have a ground dug one in my collection and can swear by it now.The metal part has rusted badly and also most wire has left a grey shadow on the paint as proof of age

My mistake, it was not ebay but "Specialist auctions.com" Never the less, the wiring is bad.
