A Second Helmet for your consideration Please
Hi, First, A big thank you to the fellow contributors who passed comment on the first lid. I learned quite a bit about a helmet that has been sitting around for quite a few years. The next one is a Lufty with reasonable paintwork but a poor lining. Your comments, opinions and info would be appreciated. Many thanks for your time, patience and knowledge.

Looks like an all original but a bit rough Luftwaffe double decal M40. Low lot number 60 and produced by ET (Eisenhüttenwerk Thale) --- size 64 (?). Seems like it has been oiled though... all in all I like it, not a bad example.

Hi Slados, Thank you for your comments and information. You are quite correct re "oiled". The liner has been oiled and the shell has been boot polished. I use polish as it can be removed without interfering with the integrity of the paint finish. One question If I may, can the lot number be dated?
With thanks, regrads and best wishes Michael R

You're welcome! I have an ET SS helmet with a low lot number of 39 and I believe I found that this would indicate something like an April (thereabout) 1940 production date --- so, I'm guessing yours would be close to this.. I may be off on this as I went by some online source I can no longer find. Others will know a lot more.
According to what I have written down I found that the M40 was approved by the Wehrmacht on March 26th, 1940.

Michael,
You can also look on the liner band for a date (year). However, this may be difficult to do if it is a tight fit next to the shell. Also tip of the chin strap may be marked as well.

Michael

Hi Michael ,
According to a list I have it would place it late 1940. Also the helmets near it seem to have left the factory as a single decal, so maybe the national shield was added by its owner?
Like it though.
Cheers.

A double decal m40?
As unlikely as that is ... it seems so ( maybe the luftwaffe were not as diligent in the adherence to the removal order ?)
