This is a double decal transitional helmet for discussion.
I believe that the liner is late war.
    Why?
The chinstrap bails have rounded corners. Early helmet chinstrap bails are square.
The leather is pig skin. Early helmet liners were smooth sheep skin.
The helmet liner rivits are obviously not the early apple green color but late war slate gray.
It is my educated opinion the the helmet has been messed with and is not original.
    Opinions please.

It was re-issued so that might explain why you think it "was messed with"

    This is 100% authentic though....

It matches the one here: German-Helmets.com

I have a question I have viewed many threads and forums on Helmets since I came to this FORUM five months ago and the one thing I was told was to allways avoid a helmet that have ie.... loose rivets, miss colored rivets, or any helmet that has the physical appearence of being tampered with if I am wrong someone please correct me.

It depends on what you want it for,Mark. If you're buying it for the looks,is one thing-but as an investment? You're probably right. William

Is it possible someone tinkered with it along time ago? And did the changes?

The myth about buying a helmet with rivets a different color or loose is just that, a myth perpetuated by overly paranoid collectors who perhaps havent handled many real ones and a lot of tampered with lids, like this one appears to be. Rivets loosened over time and use, I have several helmets with unmessed with liners missing washers or have the rivets loosened way off. It's not uncommon for paint on rivets to be mismatched particularly on early Q M35s. You simply need to know your helmets. These collector "rules" are not hard and fast but must be taken into the context of the entire helmet.
