Update on M35 Christmas Gift

Article about: great job - well done

Default Update on M35 Christmas Gift

I posted this helmet under the thread about Christmas gifts. M35 ET62. She was without a liner or chinstrap when I got her. I was abe to grab an original chinstrap, dated 1937 barely readable, maker completely unreadable. The liner was used post-war by Norway. I removed the red dye as best I could without destroying the leather too much. I think the worn look of the liner goes well with the semi rusty and worn look of the exterior of the shell. I have a complete liner set-up for a size 62, but I chose not to use it on this one because these split pins look to have never been removed, so I thought it best to keep them that way. Goes without saying; the drawstring is a repro. Hope you like her new look.

Great refit, that Norg liner looks superb, I didn't expect such a nice result stripping the dye.

What did you use to remove the dye? Acetone?

Yes, acetone. I tested it on a small area and it turned out well. So I went ahead with it. It gave it a very nice "well worn" look, a good fit with the worn look of the shell and decals. Thankfully I have small fingers so placing it in the liner was sort of easy. I'm glad it turned out well and that you all like it.
