Won this M40 Q64 helmet at an auction today (I think I paid too much but got caught in the bidding frenzy). I assume it to be a vet bring-back since his dog tags were attached. The liner is in superb shape. Any advice in maintaining the integrity of this liner? I want to avoid any dry rot since my other helmets are afflicted with this.

Hi Pablo , you have picked up a very nice M40 helmet there. As for the risk of damage to the liner ,if it is ok now all you need to do is keep it in a stable atmosphere, a nice homely shelf should be fine! Leon.

Very nice lid, Congrats! As for the liner I am not sure, It looks more than fine to me. I would imagine just sensible storage should ensure it stays as is for many many years to come. Just what ever you do don't use mink oil lol. Cheers, Sean.

It looks like it says : "For Jake or John" so I assume it was brought back by the Vet as a gift for his son or relative named Jake or John. German's didnt regularly write their names on the liner tongues, as it would quickly be blurred away-but Vet's did.
    Nice helmet!

That is a nice M40 you got yourself there. The liner, chinstrap, and all is in fantastic shape. As long as you had fun maybe you can justify a little over spending, and in this condition, its value will surely climb.
