A tarted-up semi relic I agree, those rust pits are quite deep.

it looks like hd texture spray paint with some shading done with other colors
Looking for following WWII German items:
    - anything dealing with Allenstein (Olsztyn) and Wehrkreis I in East Prussia,
    - entrenching tool carrier (straight and folding),
    - forestry and hunting items,

Because the textured paint is in perfect condition whilst the underside of the rim has rust pitting holes visible. the liner looks wrong as well, the colour, the seam stitching etc. Spend time studying other threads and get some good books before attempting to buy German helmets IMO.
    Well put Jerry.

looks like someone took a dump in it & fried the liner - vindaloo perhaps?

Would appear to be a relic helmet that someone has tried to increase the value and hide the relic status by applying the camoflage.

The liner looks ok to me, just shrunk with age, possibly not original to the shell as others have mentioned. At best this might have been a reenactors special but more likely it was intended to deceive.
