Your best helmet in 2012. Post 'em!

Article about: What was the best helmet you got in 2012? For me it's pretty easy; it's this DD Austrian M17 / Wz20 pre-war transitional. I adore the early rounded bottom tricolour. I can't get at the liner

Really nice helmets for this year, guys!

Here is my last helmet for the year,it hasn't arrived yet so the sellers photos will have to do

It's a Heer M40 with a wood chip overpaint, the decal was painted around neatly, but has suffered some damage. A real combat veteran in my humble opinion

Nice lid Josh, Dave is a good guy I've had stuff from him in the past. I think I was lusting over this one at some point too, it seems familiar.

Thanks Krad and FJ for the kind words - I'm looking forward to this one arriving.. It will be interesting to wonder what made the liner turn such a deep red color. Perhaps poor storage?

Will it be before Christmas time? Who knows at this point. I paid for express shipping, but with the Christmas rush, I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't make it here in time!

    Nice helmets all around guys!

If it wasn't from Dave I would think it might be a Norge rework from the colour, but I'm sure he wouldn't sell a lid with that kind of liner without mentioning it, if at all. It looks like it has been in there forever too. I don't know, maybe our soldat was a dapper dan man (hair wax)? Or some kind of leather treatment, or just simple storage issues as you suggest. Either way I like it and it looks honest

Yeh I see what you mean there, the color is a bit similair to the Norwegian dye. I've seen this coloring as a result of poor storage/moisture so I was confident in the purchase

The hair wax angle is also a possibility.. I use bryll cream in my hair a lot and I can see how over time it would change the color of leather
