I just discovered War Relics Forum and have begun to explore this very nice site. I thought I would share some photos of my Hörster Police Officer Degen. My father brought this sword back from Germany at the end of WWII. It was presented to him by a police official in surrender. The portepee is an original unissued but did not come with the sword; I purchased it a few years ago to dress it up. The blade is in excellent shape, only one tiny area of defect. The scabbard has one significant dent as observed but otherwise the sword and scabbard just show their natural patina and hazing. SS marks on the guard and scabbard throat.

Thank you to all for the warm welcome!

What I have learned about this type of degen I have gleaned from the internet and questions I have asked on other forums. I'm curious if much has been written about them in reference books? I know there were at least a few different makers, as I've run across different ones for sale on various sites. Is there a resource that catalogs the different sword makers and numbers made of this particular type? Is there anything in particular that points to a year or range of production?

Hi Doc..you could start off with Tom Wittmans SS reference..Exploring the Dress daggers and Swords of the German SS" ..which also includes a study of the Police Degen. Here is Toms site...for his reference. It is exhaustive in content and quite worth it..for the serious collector or researcher. Regards Larry
