Plated scabbards were usually an extra cost option from many makers.
I am certain other will confirm Eickhorn offered this.
It looks period to me.

Hey Ade,

Hate to be a stick in the mud but I don't think that scabbards during the III Reich were ever nickel plated as per regulations scabbards were either a black enamel paint finish or a leather with metal base, based on the branch i.e. Heer,Luftwaffen,Navy etc.
I know that vets loved to chrome lots of items returned i.e. helmets etc, I have a hitler youth dagger that has a chromed scabbard vet done.

Had some time to waist and took a few pic's.
Unfortunatly my camera had his best time.
But what I noticed is that the attach of the retaining ring is mostly on the same place for the black scabbards, and on a more distand place on the nickled one...
While it's true that some vets/others chrome plated all sorts of things, as Ade stated, it's also a fact that nickel plating was an extra cost item in the TR period from some makers. With black enamel a standard non-government finish, bluing was another option (besides nickel) as were period refurbishing services and/or replacement parts in the desired type of finish. Best Regards, Fred
I agree with FP (sorry Horst) i have read pretty sure it was in the catalouge that there was an extra charge for nickel plated, just having a look now to see how much the extra would be.
cheers Ronnie
I know its earlier than the Tr but here is a kinder sabel i have which the scabbard is also nickel plated
Kinder saber with double etched blade
i will carry on looking for the extra charge on the plating (i have to translate) and takes a little longer
