Are you asking because they are rounded like that and not like cut stones?

    Hello Ivan,
I have never seen eyes like that on any German sword.
They are not cut glass but rounded, either for a stuffed animal or a taxidermy item.

What an extensive amount of work on the back strap! And a damascus blade to boot with a triple etch!
    Love it!
I guess this could be a custom order and those eyes could be original?

I have never seen eye stones with Pupils in them. I would have to say that in my opinion, this was done post-war. Possibly, the originals were popped out by the Vet who brought it back, in the common but silly belief that they were rare and valuable rubies and they were replaced-albeit badly-later down the road. A beautifully done sword, in any case. I would be seriously tempted to restore original style stones, if this were mine. The sword itself is superb.

The pride of ownership that must have accompanied this sword with its original holder, could only have been immense. Congrats on finding this and picking it up, regardless of the ruby eyes. I hope you post more detailed photos when you get it in hand!

I would like to hear Michael Ryan's opinion on this one. If anyone would have seen such a thing, it would be him!

A very high quality sword. I have never seen eyes like this before. I have Angolia's old sword book and it has a section on Imperial. I will have a look. Tom Johnson has a two volume set on Third Reich swords. If someone has those they might see if he cover something like this.

I see what I believe is an officers Guard star on the langet.
I don't think I would mess with the eyes. Just a gut feeling.
