Great sword Alex.... I fear a commonly seen fake etch seen on most dress bayonets.
Superior eyes of WRF member Anderson would be able to detect if this is a recent application.
Gerit and Stingray also would be a good resource on information on the etch.
The sword is Authentic..and I hope I am wrong or it may be ruined.

I am waiting for Gerit, Stingray and others replies.
Stingray (Ivan) is a Pack specialist, but from what I can see (normally I like much closer/high definition) as a generalist nothing jumps out at me as bad. The "For my service" type of etch almost always seen on dress TR era bayonets usually commemorating the time an EM soldier spent on active duty before being transferred to the Reserves to finish his military obligations. Which also could have been as a career soldier before he retired for one reason or another. But this is an Officer's model saber which is going to lead to some guesswork I think because the etch is generic. Best Regards, Fred

Can you provide better pictures of the hilt and top of the pommel, lion head.
The grip wire looks correct, but I have never seen this hilt before.
Also better picture of the maker mark please.

The photos are not great Alex, with sections of the etching not visible. But I can already see some etching alignment issues near the hilt which are not good. The etching itself, is not like a Pack bayonet etching at all. This is a more generic style, Pack tended to be quite individualistic in style, that this isn't. As Stingray says the pommel head looks a little odd. I think reserve judgement until further photos are available.

I cannot undestand. He wants information for this sword.
If I understand correctly what you are saying is that the owner of the sword is seeking information of his sword but can not provide any more photos that will enable Stingray to further assist in authentication ?
So with no further photos from the original owner ..the observations made are all there is and nothing more can be given. Tell the owner Sorry that no further help can be given without further reference. The sword will remain in a questionable state.
