Made by Carl Eickhorn in 1935 - "G" is the date code.

Official military issue (as opposed to private purchase) as evidenced by the military acceptance stamps and serial number.

The scabbard would originally have had the same markings.

    Very nice sword.

    Regards

Richie is correct, is probably a higher NCOs sabre, is there 118 under the small eagles?

Yes. 118. So senior NCO? Any clue as to what kind of unit or function? Doug

Hi Doug, these would be used by an NCO who did not own his own sword at ceremonies parades etc where a sword could be carried. So he would draw one from unit stores to use. These were carried throughout the Heer and were not really unit specific.

    Cheers, Ade.

As Ade says they were "für Unteroffizier mit Portepee". Being a (government issue) officer's model. With the senior grade NCO's able to purchase for off duty use the fancier grade swords like commissioned officers if they chose to do so. FP

i always understood these to be armory swords. an NCO that did not own one could check it out from the armory for parades etc, and then return it to the armory. i own one.
