Article about: hy guys! I came across this sword on auction in Ireland and i am wondering if it is real or fake, there is only the one picture though. they are asking for €650-€800 for it. i'll try get mor

    I was able to request better pictures so it will may shed more light on whether this sword is real or fake. are there any pointers you can give to help me learn about forgeries and such?

    Hi Denise, the sword, as already mentioned, is totally original.

    At present the Heer sword is being copied in China. The qualty of these fakes is nowhere near as good as an original. Plastic grips with a moulded line down the centre, very poor casting to the hilt/crossguard, terrible makers marks to blade, no gillding, too deep blood groove to blade, etc. I don't have any pics of these fakes but they are horrible!

    thanks for your help! i figured it had to be a fake cause its on auction in Ireland, didn't think anyone here would be that interested in stuff like that. now if only i wasn't a student and could buy it myself!! begin my collecting

    Not my field, .. but I'm surprised to see that the gilding is more or less 100% intact.
    Is that reasonably common on these, or should a few signs of rubbing/wear be expected ?

    Hi Gary, the gilding on these usually survives really well. It is only on the later made examples that it tends to wear and rub a little.
