Do we need " likes" system?

In the few years that I have been here I feel that I have tried to make quality threads and posts. I try to keep my frivolous posts to a minimum. I know that I do not have as many as some but in the same time I have given almost as many likes as I have received. I have also received a few reputations from some of our "PINK" members and for that I thank them. I know that I appreciate when someone "likes" my posts. It serves as a good tool to tell someone that you appreciate their post without having to type another response in, especially if you have just posted. Also as said by others, you may not really have any input on the topic but, it is a way to indicate that you agree and appreciate another member's post.

Not a case of needing, more a case of liking. They are useful to have, but I won't die if we don't have them.
