Big Nazi political ring

Article about: This is a large ring. I can almost imagine it squeezed onto the fat finger of a fat Gauleiters with a predilection for Würstchen...

Astonishing hypocrisy given how vehement he is in dissing other collectors' (genuine) items - in equally astonishing, nonsensical detail - as phony. Thanks, Ned, for sharing.

Thanks for all of the comments. OK, not all of them! :o)

Regarding casting or not, I know next to nothing, and certainly not as much as some of you. However, it is beyond belief that no cast rings were made in the Third Reich. What evidence supports this contention?

One statement above, that ‘…casted rings exist in WW2 period, but only in trenches. Germans never made such low quality jewelry [sic] in WW2 period. IMHO’ , is nonsense. Many German-made ‘Kantine Rings’ are not high quality. They were produced cheaply in vast numbers. The average serviceman probably could not afford some of the more specialised or ‘high-end’ rings that we see.

As you know, there are many phony rings sold on eBay and elsewhere… usually for the 30 Euros that they’re not worth, but sometimes a lot more. Fakes are often based on well-known designs that were mass-produced during the war. Normally, they are easy to spot as inferior copies. Fantasy rings are also cheap rubbish and continue to flood the market. Most experts know that such designs never existed in Third Reich Germany. This forum is a great means to get this advice if you are unsure.

In contrast, the rings that I posted were not mass-produced. They were produced in limited numbers (e.g., for a particular military unit or government organisation) or even custom-made for individual persons. As pointed out by DrPMC above, it is ‘…a reasonable assumption that casting might be preferred for the production of very limited runs and one-offs’. It’s a good point but I don’t know the answer.

I ask myself, how much would it cost to produce such a high-quality ring as this one. Could some faker in Poland, the Ukraine or wherever then produce sufficiently high numbers of these to distribute and sell and make it worth his while? Many of my rings seem to be one-of-a-kind. I have never seen others like them. Can anyone show me another example of this ‘political’ ring? The rarity makes them collectible… but only if you’re stupid enough (like me) to collect rings, according to one post. Yeah, there are risks and it is often impossible to verify 100% that a ring is a real WW2 item. You can say the same with just about any kind of antique unless you personally owned it for 80 years!

My rings were obtained from experienced, knowledgeable, trusted sources who are careful to steer clear of phonies and cheating dealers. Many came directly from WW2 veterans who brought them back from the war, or their families. They are all given a thumbs-up by experts, some of whom are members of the WRF and other fora. They are of a quality (cast or not) that is far superior to any fake or fantasy piece I ever saw.

Open discussion like this is healthy and fun, but I got concerned that some comments about authenticity are based on personal opinion (‘IMHO’) rather than true knowledge. Accordingly, such comments are unfairly destructive... (IMHO!). I appreciate that I’m new to the forum and not even close to being an expert, but I know people who are. Thanks again and apologies for the dissertation.

The question isn't , how much would it cost to produce such a ring , but how much you can get for it . I would say you payed more then scrap metal value , by some multiples I'd image . A smart faker wouldn't flood the market , but only slowly trickle them out into the market . I just don't see how this Nazi Bling , has become so collectable . When you can never truly know when something was made . Buy the item not the story . But I don't think I'll change anyones mind , I just think it's a silly thing to collect , when there are so many areas of collecting real TR items . Things that can be proven real , known makers marks , other examples , etc . Not just any ring with a Nazi symbol on it . I don't mean to offend , just my humble opinion .

If he rubber stamped it I sure as hell would be concerned, that's for sure.

Well , I'd worry . Hence rings are too easy to fake . So don't collect stuff that you have no way of proving if it's original . Do you have any idea how many 70's Biker Rings sit in collections , sold as original with a great story to back it all up . PS Don't collect rings
