In my own opinion, I think the ring has it's own poetry and for me the lack of enamel doesn't put me off.

I believe it to be paint. The point is that 70 year old paint can hang on where 70 year old enamel has let go which in my opinion, certainly classes the ring as 'damaged'.

Of course, an identical ring that has spend its 70 years in a different environment can lose a good deaal more of its finish which does class as 'damage' to me.
