    These little guys have always been especially interesting to me.

    So, I took it upon myself to do a bit of research.

    They are civilian made for civilian use and originally date from the latter part of the 1920s.

    However, I assume no regulation prevented members of the RKKA/RKKF to enhance their appearance using them.

    The display card reads:

    star is actually glass - or is it plastic.........?

    From the collection of Denis Rodichev:

    I strongly believe there is a pigmented surface application to the reverse of clear glass sub-components to make them appear red in colour. In other words, the glass itself is NOT stained red.

    The "clear" example on the right I believe has been disassembled and cleaned - hence the red removed and the clear appearance present.

    Why a non "red" Soviet star?
