    This question of atypical gymnasterka was discussed on a French forum (Place Rouge) and this photo confirms what Michael said.

    A member of this forum even has a M35 tunic with 4 buttons and cut in the same woolly cloth that doubles some officier's pilotka M35 . This is the first time I saw it. A very interesting case.

    Thanks for the link back to the past thread Philippe... some good photos there. No right pocket is a factory model in my mind. The reason is a mystery. Back to this gymnastiorka, I offered that the pleats were odd in the context that this appears to be an EM ranks garment. Pleats on M35 types for officer's are not uncommon, especially on pre-1940 made items. Standard and reverse pleats are fairly common.

    collar tabs rectangular, not square! you circled

    You mean to save expenses. But Red Army begin saving costs in 1942 year. Known example are dated 1940 year, and the owner has seen a order where it shown as a field dress jacket for technician personnel in main branch services.
