    Default Painted cockade

    Hi,

recently stumbled upon this tired-looking hat pin. At first I thought it's a German made, but H&S look different and it's made of steel. I am not very familiar with most of the Soviet insignia that goes above the neck, so I would be grateful if anyone could point me to the right direction.
    Thank you.

The design looks to me typically Soviet. Some stars which look similar to the Soviet one are sometimes German KPD ones (communist party) or Yugoslav ones (soviet made or yugoslav made - mostly WWII and immediate post-war years).

This however does not look like a Yugoslav one, never seen it in any catalogue. So in my opinion it could be Soviet and looks like original. But honestly I have no more opinions. I am myself a Soviet star-cockade collector and I never un into such a star before.. Definitely interesting..

    Thanks,
dimensions (23,5mm) suggest that this could have been on a pilotka, but so far I have only seen red enamel or green paint stars on those. Whenever and wherever these were issued, it must have been an unpopular type I guess.

I believe this is German made for the Soviets under "reparation". Here I show a Lubstein made pilotka with a very similar star - 1950г

BTW, I also believe Soviet wartime made red painted stars did exist. Here are three examples:

Example of KPD star - as touched-upon in post № 1, note the H&S :

    Thank you,
and yes, the one on a side cap looks about the same, if the dimensions match. Is that a plated steel pin? I got my example as a bonus when I bought a M36 two-piece enamel star, so I did not give it a much thought until recently. Some very nice stars, particularly the first one (on an ushanka?), those I have not seen before either.
Great community you have here, and many thanks for the input.
