The M36 badges were two part.
Still a nice original badge.

Yes, 36 is the year. This is of course "collector speak" and not an official classification from the period. This one is not a 36.
This type seems to have been introduced around 1947/1948.
Richie did a little PDF file on cap stars. If he is happy, I will get it sent to you.

This particular model was introduced in the early/mid 1950s, the exact year escapes me, and was used until 1964. The 1947 model star has similar arms to the 1936 and 1939 models.
