Default 1940 Dated british O.R. Khaki Drill jacket

Picked this up some time ago. Titles are slip on. Collar devices are sewn on and all the buttons are royal artillery and held on with rings. Little collar hook was in the pocket. Just wanted to get a few opinions on it and ask when it may have been worn.

Very nice example. Early war dated kit is not that common.

Would have been worn in tropical climates, North Africa, India, etc.

    Cheers, Ade.

Glad it looks ok Ade! I wanted a drill jacket for awhile. Wod a pith helmet have been worn with this.

Nice clean example. The Pith helmet would only have been worn away from the frontline, Steel helmet in the front line, side cap otherwise.

Very uncommon to see one with the slip on cloth titles. As it has the metal collars it is perhaps his sunday best for going to the souk etc...

    Whatever its just an opinion.

So the wool slip ons are unusual?

I would half expect them to be metal shoulder titles, but the slip on's would be OK.

    Cheers, Ade.

No, but it is unusual to see them still in place because they were slip on so have in most cases been removed and also in theory they were superseded by cloth sewn on shoulder titles (on the BD blouse), metal titles or most commonly seen with no titles except for dress, in which case the metal titles are most often seen.

It is possible or probable that the RA slip ons have been added to it post war as they are the wool version and are intended for the woolen BD blouse, though of course nearly anything is possible and was likely done by someone at the time, never say never, but......

And the wool slip ons are themselves very common and are among the easiest to find and cheapest to buy.

Thank you both. Maybe I will invest in a period pair of metal titles to display with this uniform.

I would only add these if there are already holes in the shoulder straps to take them.
