Could this be British issue ? Unknown style ...

Hello there. I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to help me identify this leather vest ? Is it british issue ? Looks 1940s possibly earlier going on wear and tear. No marks or makers inside . Thanks . Gil

I'm probably way off, but it does look like a cut down version of the British Jerkin. Being short could be for armoured crew, like this picture of the Irish guards which is quite similar.
