It sounds a real shame about the tunic you mention and the owner needs an attitude readjustment IMHO
You did well mate! Hopefully the seller comes through with the rest of the items! Will you be able to research this bloke at all?

I am waiting on the phone call but am hopeful. The problem is that Jones is a real common name which will make searching difficult but I hope to get his full name or initials off the seller and then I will try the London Gazette.

I hope all works out for you Jerry, at least you have a foot in the door so to speak, its a great group and glad that you saved it.

I have a similar situation with a local hardware shop. The guy who owns it has a ww2 Greatcoat, Despatch Rider's Overcoat and ww2 Tankers boots "on display" but all I see is them gethering dust and moth holes. I have been in periodically to ask if they are for sale but the answer keeps changing from simply no to hes going to dress up in them for reenactments. I just wonder when this is actually going to happen as although no one can force him to part with these things I just wish he would look after them better.

Anyway, rant over, awesome group and keep us posted on any thing else you get with it.

Always a shame to see items just rotting or being eaten by moths, so hopefully he will either do something with them or sell them to you for a sensible price.

I had such a good day yesterday that it was only just before going to bed that I looked at something else I bought in a different antique shop which I will post in another thread in the WWI section.

I will of course post any other items or information on this group when I have anything to add.

    Thanks Liam.

I posted this on another forum and they have come up with a likely candidate for him, but I need to confirm this if I can with the seller. E.E. Jones is likely to have been his name, and here are some links to that officer who seems to fit the description and the uniform.

Thanks to the generosity of a member and friend on another forum I have some more information and though it conflicts with some of the information from the London gazette it does actually make more sense, which has him as a Captain in 1941 when the tunic and trousers were made as the tunic and the great coat clearly have three holes for the rank insignia on the shoulder straps so captain fits, whilst if he was already a Major by this date it would of had at most two holes for the LT, Colonel rank, so good news. Still waiting to hear from the seller about the other items, doh!
