Need help identifying uniforms in Algiers painting

Hello,
I would appreciate help identifying the uniforms in this painting. I believe the painting to be of Algiers during WWI or WWII. The nurse's uniform could be US WWI or it could be Canadian or Australian WWII.
I'm a newbie and appreciate any help you can give.

Sorry, it's illegible. Looks like a scribble with maybe an f at the beginning.

On the idea that this is standard attire as mentioned above...I think it is not. The man and woman are foreigners whose attire is "Western" and would not have been worn in Algiers. (Note how differently dressed they are than other people on the street in the painting). As this image shows, the WWI US Army Nurse's uniform was quite similar to what the woman in the painting is wearing.

this is a copy of a famous painting by a very, very well known artist but the name and title of the painting escape me at the moment. interesting.

I agree. The clothing looks much more Western than anything else. It doesn't quite look military either. Perhaps it's an archaeologist and his wife?
