Not a problem sargetom. I have learned more that pertains to that very ribbon in fact. It isn't on the uniform because of the 3rd Armored Division, but because it was actually awarded to the 73rd Field Artillery! They put up such a barrage in the battle for Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge, that their fire slowed the German advance enough to allow the 101st Airborne to occupy the town and stage their historic defense! The things I learn during researching some items is amazing. It was said that had it not been for the actions of the 73rd FA, Bastogne would have fallen to the Germans.

Thanks to you both Smitty and sargetom for your service!

I would love to see a book about US Army Germany from SHAEF-US Army Europe to US Army Germany.

It would be full of interesting unit histories , orders of battle, location of units and operations carried out including the like of Davy Crockett units and the umpteen combat, combat support and service support units.

Also the units they were facing and any shenanigans that were going on at the time ie The Berlin Wall , check point charlie and not forgetting the relationships between the other Allied nations.

Definitely, in my opinion worthy of a compendium of an era not covered.

I think it would be a good read as well Phill. Our member Friedrich-Berthold is very familiar with that timeframe and the goings on in and around Germany then. He shared some very interesting information a year ago when I shared a pair of 1961 U.S. Forces in Germany license plates I picked up at, of all places, my local county fair.

I found this army video on you tube that shows the 3rd Armored Division around the same time as this uniform was worn. It even shows the specialist 5 rank in wear on the duty uniform.
