Default Questions about these Wool Coats US Army?

    Hello,
I purchased these two wool coats recently.
    Any info would be appreciated.
Are they US Army or USAAF?
Why are they different (buttons are different + one has shoulder bars).
    Any idea value?
    Thanks
    Anton

The US Army and the USAAF wore the same uniforms.

    Cheers, Ade.

Anton the overcoat ,wool was issued with two types of buttons brass and a green plastic button ( still embossed with the US coat of arms) in 1942 to save on brass. Both of your overs look like they have been shortened. The one with out the US button could have been used after the war by a civilian . Gary

Thanks RH1941, but what do you mean about the officers overcoats coming with plastic buttons being marked overcoat officers? The one in the last photo has the plastic buttons with the US eagle. What leads you to believe it was shortened? The other coat is shorter and possibly was shortened. It also doesnt have the shoulder bars like the last one.

Anton the tag on the inside would be marked officers overcoat .

OK, I took better pics and took measurments of the lengths.
The first coat I will call Coat A is a size 34 short. It measures from the top of the neck to the bottom of the coat (measuring from the back) approx 42 1/2" long.
I also took pics of the bottoms so you could hopefully tell if they were shortened. I find it hard to believe that Coat A was shortened, but I am not an expert. Here are pics of Coat A.
