    Hi all,

Today I've been given a 1945 dated, RAF Officers overcoat. I'm just wondering if anyone could give me a bit of information about it, and a rough idea of it's value.

It is missing the collar eagles, and four brass buttons off the breast.

I've got some pictures, but I can't upload them at the minute.

    Cheers guys,
    Lee

    Ah, cheers for that Ade!

I wasn't sure whether the email worked, as I had to sent via mobile email.

    Thanks mate!

Hi Lee, I have now had time to crop the pics and turn them around too. Saves getting a stiff neck

The tab is just stored in the position shown under the inside pocket. In use it is unbuttoned from there and rebuttoned in place across the throat of the coat to neatly hold the collar in place when the coat is fulled buttoned up to the neck. Check under the collar: you should find two small plastic buttons.

The buttons will be easy to replace as these are common to find at shows etc.

Does it have the belt with it?

BTW it does not have any insignia to the collar. But it should have rank shoulder boards.

I will show my RAF WO's greatcoat in a new thread. Showing your Greatcoat inspired me to finally take some pics of it.

    Cheers, Ade.

Hi Lee, please see this thread about my RAF greatcoat:

You can now see how the collar closes.

    Cheers, Ade.

    Hi Ade,

What will I need to restore the coat to it's former glory?

Obviously I need a belt, four brass buttons for the right side of the jacket, and 6 brass buttons for the cuffs. But I'm not sure what else (rank ect)

    Cheers mate,

Hi Lee, the RAF buttons will be easy. The belt and buckle you might struggle to find. But you never know what will turn up and where.

You will also need need shoulder boards which carry the rank lace. Check the greatcoat for evidence of these. Sometimes they are slip on style but held in place with a screw on false button.

    Cheers, Ade.
