Looks really good. I read something about a similar subject recently and from what I remember it was a company distinction, with different colours for the different companies. If I can find it again I'll try and confirm more details, though I might be thinking of some other form of distinguishing companies and this might be of no relevance what so ever.
Probably not relevant, but South African forces wore a red/orange strip in this position on their shoulder straps.
