Rhodesian Camo Jacket

Article about: Thanks guys, for all the info and interesting photos, and thanks, Joepe. Would anyone know if there was any type of insignia perscribed for this uniform, in either cloth or metal..........?

    Default Rhodesian Camo Jacket

Had this Rhodesian Army camo jacket for about 10 years and don't know
    it's age - I'm guessing 60's or 70's - or worth. It has a plush button-in liner
and removable epaulettes. Came with a pair of camo trousers as well.

    Any info would be appreciated........

    G'day Steve

I've tried to look this one up to no avail
    Does it have a tag?

Yes there's a tag, but at the neck is well worn :

    THRUSTER GROUP
    XXXXXX - MADE IN SA
    YEAR 1989 X X 8 . 2 X

    That's all I can make out ! - X's are unreadable areas.
The pants may have a tag too, but are tucked away in a box - somewhere ! !

Someone placed a similar camo uniform on sale or auction somewhere with a huge
starting price I remember, in excess of $200.00 !

    I don't recall it being sold !

Looks like the tag answered the date and it's South African mfg.
Could it be an experimental patt for the SADF as they adopted their current pattern in 2000
here's a site I have found that helps, but it's broad.
Jeeze $200 bucks, I'd leave it
You maybe able to hassle the guy that runs the shop at Johannesburg war museum

    Thanks, Rene !

South Africa - 1989 dated. I hadn't really looked closely at it until today !
It was a thrift store find, but I was intrigued by the camo pat.

Thought a forum member might recognize it...............

The SA camo jacket on the site you refer to is similar, but mine seems to have a tighter pattern.

    Best regards,

    Steve.

It just hangs on a rack ! Thought a forum member might recognize it...............

Sorry Mate I did a quick edit on my last post, take a look if you already haven't done so.

    Certainly wouldn't have paid $200. that's for sure ! !

Can't think of anyone who would, as it is not even "vintage" yet !

    hi Steve,
the camo jacket is south african police issue, they used loads of different camo over the years, sometimes just slightly different to the SADF camo. i would have to agree about the mad price of 200 dollars!!! i guess it's only worth what some one is willing to pay, like most militaria.

    Hi,

This is a actually a South-West African Police (SWAPOL) issue camouflage jacket. It would have been issued during the 1980's up to the point when SWAPOL units were banned from wearing camouflage uniforms for public relations/political reasons. It is worth a good amount of money although I would say $200 is a bit steep. This pattern has good value because it was worn by the infamous Koevoet units, although not exclusively by them.

    Thank you, skot44panzer and Matt-partisan42
    for the information !

I love varied camouflage patterns from all countries
but hadn't seen this one before !

( The photo should be vertical, and I cannot explain
why it is still sideways ! ! )

    Regards,

    Steve.
