If the shoulder strap is green, red, brown then it is for the 2nd. Bn. Tank regiment. I have also looked in the orders of battle and the only tank unit that the 4th. armoured brigade served in 13-7-43---31-8-45 is the 44th. Royal Tks. these dates would tye in with the date of your jacket. I will look further when I have time, John.

Hi Paul, it does not ring any bells with me off hand?

Here is an order of battle which would give you a starting point to research the units and insignia:

4th Armoured Brigade Organisation and Order of Battles, 1943 to 1945

    Cheers, Ade.

allso he is badged as a REME, A mech" ie " a mechanic
also known as THE ARMOURED FARMERS
the 3rd RTR come from the west country
i would say this BD blouse is from either the late 40s ,, or early 50s
by the look of the reme badge i would say 50s

Thanks for the replies everyone -been really useful and has helped with a little further research! I now think this 1943 made BD was worn post war with this insignia. The 2nd RTR only served briefly with 4th Armoured Brigade very early in the war however it did serve with this Brigade from August 1946 in occupied Germany so this insignia combination fits that circumstance best. Its a shame its not a true WW2 veteran!

The shoulder flash is definitely NOT 3 RTR. 3 RTR would have been a solid Brunswick Green flash. How do I know???? I'm ex 3 RTR. The shoulder flash is 2 RTR (Saffron being the regimental colour). Furthermore, the Hammer & Tongs is the insignia of a senior mechanic in the REME. This uniform therefore belonged to a member of the REME who was attached to 2 RTR.
