Hey Jean,
if the buttons are original to the uniforme , I would say a private forest guard for a private domain belonging to a noble family.
Hard to tell wich family; I could look thise up, but if you could give me what is in the crest , it would be easyer to find.
The buttons aren't military, that is for shure,I happen to collect that kind of items as well!
cheers

Thanks Kris for the info.
Jean
It is I who have to thank you, for given me the opportunity to buy it!
I am very pleased with the aquisition....the wife is not!!! ;-)
As I stated it is a private forester's uniform.
The man was in service of Franciscus Gislenus Borluut who died in 1881.
So I would date the uniform around that time.
The Borluut is a very old Flemish noble family who are originaly from Ghent and known since the 8 th century.
They took part at the uprising in 1302 along with other well known historical figures.
The crest of arms also mentions "Velt Groeninghe- Groeninghe Velt"
The second crest of arms belongs to his wife , who was Sidonia Maria Colleta Gislena Kervyn.
Also a very old aristocratic Flamish/ Dutch family.
There are no more male descendants since nearly 100 years and the castle where thise guy used to be active is now public ownership.
