Great clean officers jacket.

Not to sure on the SSI on where its made. Have only seen 1 made in Australia and that was embroidered on felt. Most if not all theatre made were done in Japan occupation period.
Your one is intriguing. Going by the images its thin felt on a thicker OD felt (or possible wool can't see clearly). I have never see a US 1st Cav done like this pre war and into occupation period.
Where ever it was constructed they put thought into it and it is a high quality made SSI. Another point is that the dimensions and shape were adhered to, normally theatre made they are odd shaped horse head, narrower bend or shape of the patch etc..

It is a very nice SSI.

This looks US made felt on felt and then they have deliberately applied a felt(?) OD color backing trying to match the OD dark colour choco officers Jacket.

I've just noticed the date of manufacture Nov 1942 on the jacket, which would correlate to an early war US made SSI.

Circa 1942 the US started to manufacture fully embroidered SSI , stronger , better quality more durable and for mass production, each patch in a run exactly the same(upto 5000 in a single run) using the schiffli machine.

He is also wearing 2 overseas WWI service chevrons

Your one fits into the pre war c1940-41 period SSI and its on the left hand side meaning he is currently serving with the 1st Cav.

So all in all you have a very early WWII issued Jacket with legit officers high quality SSI, who had seen service in WWI.

Rene I know the horse head and bend are felt but cant judge the blanket if its wool or felt , can you tell?

Also there appears to be ink letters on the officers cuff braiding, just below the service chevrons?

Wonder if a UV light might do the trick.

That felt backing its not worsted wool?Doesn't look like it you know similar to WWII era Brit/commonwealth chevrons?
