Hal that paper work helped he was awarded the ribbon before he was an officer. I looked in one of my reference books that said some officers who had served as enlisted men felt some pride in being able to wear a decoration that indicated they had risen from the ranks . If he had entered his service as a officer he would not have been awarded this very cool items . Gary
