    Hi Lez,

    It looks like the hat is postwar because the label say "US women's naval resererve" which replaced the one used on a WAVES uniform during WW2 see here

    Can you confirm the label on the tunic and skirt? If it is postwar then this might be why it has gilt buttons. Each service stripes indicate 4 years and it is not worn during WW2 because WAVES was not formed until 1942 however you still find them in WW2 uniforms because the officer has served during postwar and continue wearing her wartime tunic.

    They are metal and not silver coloured. I will send you a picture next time.

    I would say post war base on the tags in the uniform and the buttons. Which would make sense since she was discharge in the 50's. During ww2 they wore blue buttons. Nice grouping by the way.

    Chief petty officer wore gilt buttons and officers.
