what regiment is this Australian kilt from ???

Hi all I'm still learning about this field . I was wondering if anyone know what regiment this Australian kilt would belong too ? or if anyone knows any good reference sites on military Scottish attire ? I know the tartan/pattern/colours usually lets you know what regiment it comes from well from what I'v read online anyway.I'v found a few sites online but they are more confusing then a help lol. any help would be great .I have an early 60's doublet this kilt would go with well I believe .

Looks like the Gordon Highlanders Tartan. This would have belonged to one of the many Scottish CMF battalions that were present in the 50's. Maybe the 5th Battalion (Victorian Scottish Regiment) I believe they wore a modified Gordon sett.

This is also the current kilt pattern for the 5th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment pipes and drums

It's missing the corks on strings around the hem to keep the flies off yer trossachs though.

Now I know what other gear to look for to complete this uniform set this stuff is hard to come by though anyone have any ideas or know of any dealers that specialise in Scottish regimental attire ?? well thanks again and enjoy your weekend .\

Plenty of info can be found on the net. Just google 5th Battalion VSR(I believe this to be the right unit, considering the kilt is dated 1959) Im sure the Vic museum or AWM should have plenty of photos.

Your right on the date, the Royal Australian Regiment battalions as we know them today weren't formed until the 1960,s....however some of the ceremonial dress of the regiments hark back to former battalions with the same number designation

Hi Matt,
This certainly is the 5th Battalion Victorian Scottish Regiment.
If you live in Melbourne - head to their regiment HQ in Burwood Road, Hawthorn where there should be a display of old uniforms.
Further, attached is the officers dress uniform from 1952.

I'm thinking a variation of the modern "Gordon" tartan also. So the 5th Battalion Victorian Scottish Regiment would be my guess based on that assumption alone.
